The Southern Avionics Monitor Receiver Model MR-5 is a sensitive solid state Tuned Radio Frequency (TRF) receiver designed to monitor the operation of low frequency radionavigation transmitters in the aeronautic and maritime services. Transmitter operation is indicated by red and green front panel LED's and by a front panel meter calibrated in signal strength and percent reduction of transmitted power. The audio characteristics of the transmitted signal are heard through a panel mounted speaker. Normal transmitter operation is indicated by the green front panel LED. Improper transmitter operation is indicated by the red front panel LED, and by an audio tone alarm. A front panel switch silences the audio alarm without turning off the red LED.
With the speaker switched on, the audio tone alarm is automatically disabled. A form C (SPDT)
relay contact is available through rear panel terminals for remote indication of alarm status. The normally-closed contact is open during normal transmitter operation and closed during improper transmitter operation or upon failure of the monitor receiver.
